Puddle Duck Hunting

From October until freeze out means we will be hunting ducks in the backwaters, swamps, and marshes adjacent to big water and/or grain fields. This time of year the birds move and so scouting is a constant. Typically our bag consists of Mallards, Black ducks, Wood ducks and Teal with an occasional Pintail and Widgeon. Access to these waters will be by canoe or by wading in and utilizing natural cover for blinds. In mid to late November freeze up coincides with the arrival of the last migrating waterfowl from Canada. Hunts for Mallards, Red Leg Black ducks take place on rocky shoals and islands surrounded by big water. Some of the year's best gunning is done in late November - December.
